Weekends, 10am – 4pm

This piece is an exercise in empathy with the natural environment by imagining how the fish see the human world given the materials we provide to them. This piece is designed to invoke an ice fishing shelter, as seen from the perspective of the fish. It is designed as a 9 foot open sided cube filled with aquatic plant and animal life fashioned out of typical household plastic waste: shopping bags, packing materials, single use cutlery, takeout containers, and bottles. The creatures have been molded from gyotaku fish molds of species present in Bde Unma including pondweeds, turtles, perch, bass, carp, bluegill, and walleye.

The portal to the human world is a suspended infinity mirror powered by a hand crank generator located on the side of the piece.

Reclaimed materials from construction waste have been used when possible.

This piece was funded by a grant from https://artshantyprojects.org/
